KISHTWAR, June 8: Kishtwar Department of Youth Services and Sports organized a Mini Secretariat cycle rally at TRC Kishtwar today which was reported by Deputy Commissioner (DC), Ashok Sharma as as the main guest of the event.
About 60 cyclists, including school children, took part in the race with the aim of motivating people to use bicycles in their daily lives for health care and fitness.
“Cycling involves different physical activities and if adopted permanently, one can be free from obesity, stress, anxiety and other diseases,” the lead guest said while reporting the race.
He added that embracing cycling by ordinary citizens for just 30 minutes would reduce body fat levels, increase cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, improve joint mobility and posture, and strengthen bones.
Later, the main guest presented the cyclists with medals and certificates.
In the under 14 category, Mohd Ibraheem won 1st position, while 2nd position went to Imad Abid, the two participants from Elite Kishtwar Public School and 3rd position was obtained by Mohd Khayam from l public school SDM.
In the under-17s, the top three positions were taken by Jibran Nabi, Mahran and Umar Farooq from Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Kishtwar, while in the under-19s, Shakeel Akther, Sameer Kumar and Akshay Kumar, all from government. The HHS boys clinched the top three spots respectively.
In the girls category, Sumedha Thakur from SDM school was the only girl to finish the cycle race.
